When performing an otoplasty near Bethesda, MD, Dr. Faulkner’s techniques depend on the specific goals of surgery. Typically, the incisions will be postauricular (on the back of the ear) or anterior (in the natural folds on the front of the ear).
Prior to incision, Dr. Faulkner administers local anesthesia to keep you comfortable.
These different surgical types involve the following steps:
- Ear Pinning: Dr. Faulkner makes one or multiple incisions on the back of the ear to remove the skin or cartilage that causes your ear to project outward. He reshapes the ear to the desired appearance before closing the incision with sutures.
- Ear Augmentation: Dr. Faulkner makes an incision, usually on the back of the ear. He then adds grafted tissue to the ear, reshaping it to meet your ideal look. Then, Dr. Faulkner closes any incisions with sutures.
- Ear Reduction: Dr. Faulkner makes an incision on the back of the ear or in the folds of your ear. He removes the unwanted tissue from the ear, reshaping to attain your agreed-upon result. After shaping, Dr. Faulkner closes the incision with sutures.
- Ear Reconstruction: Dr. Faulkner makes an incision on the front or back of the ear. He then reshapes the ear to achieve your desired look, grafting additional tissue to reconstruct as needed. After shaping, Dr. Faulkner closes the incision with sutures.
